Scholarship Highlight: Shaq McCray

"My mission is to empower seekers to become the best version of themselves through coaching, teaching and leadership."

How It All Started

We hear over and over from our young adults what an impact Quantum Leap and coaching have on their life. One such pair, Shaq and his coach John, took some time to tell us about how KW Next Gen and the QL curriculum have changed both their lives.

Shaq first heard about KW Next Gen after he co-founded the Real Estate Club at Towson University in Maryland. The club asked John Newman to come speak at a meeting. Rather than just talking real estate, John found himself sharing the principles of Quantum Leap.

“With Quantum Leap, I now have the platform I need to truly impact the lives of young adults.” –John Newman

Afterward, John encouraged Shaq to come to QL Summit in Austin. In fact, John was so impressed with Shaq that he sponsored his ticket himself!

Ten years have passed since then, and Shaq has been to almost 30 QL events, including as a QL Summit Leader in 2023. He credits John, his “real estate dad,” and Quantum Leap with giving him the foundation for his career, in which he’s been awarded NAR 30 under 30 and Baltimore Real Producers Rising Star.

Where Are They Now

“I hear all these horror stories about people who spend so much time just doing the things they thought they were supposed to do, and this is your parachute out of all that.” —Shaq McCray

These days Shaq spends his time as a Team Leader at Keller Williams Realty Flagship of Maryland, the owner & CEO of Think Real Estate, and a Certified NLP Master Practitioner—plus his most important role as dad to his two-year-old daughter. He just recently signed up to be a KW Next Gen instructor and you can catch him co-hosting an event on July 26 in the St. Pete Market Center with Jared Dykas.

What’s next? Becoming a KW Next Gen coach himself!

“I don’t do anything just because I want to attract leads to my business. I deeply care about youth and my mission is to impact the people and the communities that we operate in.” —Shaq McCray
